"Change happens through movement and movement heals."

Joseph Pilates

After becoming a certified matwork Pilates teacher with J Pilates Education and Training in 2015,  I began my career by teaching corporate, group classes and 1:1 sessions around London.

With such a passion for this mindful movement, I enjoyed gaining a deeper knowledge of body mechanics and physiology through teaching. However, alongside this, my personal health issues were starting to take their toll. After years of doctors appointments, where I was consistently told I had IBS, I was finally diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis and adenomyosis. This is a gynaecological condition associated with menstruation, where tissue similar to the lining of the womb had fused together multiple structures in my pelvis, thus compromising my fertility. Unfortunately, due to lack of research, endometriosis is very poorly understood and without a cure. It takes on average 7 years to get a diagnosis as women can present very differently with their symptoms.

After processing my diagnosis with a mixture of relief and frustration, I decided to take action and embark on a holistic journey of discovery and recovery. Through the advice of my endometriosis consultant, nutritionist, physiotherapist, alternative therapists and endometriosis support groups, I was able to effectively manage my symptoms through diet and lifestyle changes. My one constant throughout was Pilates and being knowledgable in this area helped me develop an adapted program to successfully manage my symptoms.

In 2019, I had surgery to remove the endometriosis, which helped me tremendously and almost eliminated my pelvic pain. I have since been on my own fertility journey and have safely used Pilates as a means to help prepare and optimise my body for the physical toll of trying to conceive through Assisted Reproductive Therapy.

I am not a doctor or dietitian and the information that I share is not intended to treat or diagnose any condition. I found that learning from other women going through the same experiences was the most beneficial way to facilitate my personal journey. My only mission is to help women feel confident again and reclaim trust in their bodies through controlled movement. The beauty of Pilates is that it can be done anywhere at any time - once you get on the mat, you can feel connected and relaxed.
